jungfrau Multisport
An alpine adventure with dayhikes, mountain bikes, whitewater, and more
June 27- July 5, 2011

We’ve always had such an amazing experience hiking and playing in the Jungfrau. This time we’re pulling out all the stops and taking advantage of as much fun as we can pack into one week. Hiking, canyoning, mountain-biking, ziplines, scooters, gondolas, paragliders, dog-sledding, whitewater rafting, alpine slides—the Jungfrau has it all.
We start in Lauterbrunnen—the most spectacular glacial valley in the world—before heading on to Grindelwald, at the base of the Eiger’s awesome north face.
We explore underground waterfalls, take trams and gondolas to high alpine lakes, cross glacier gorges on heart stopping (but very safe) footbridges, and visit the undiscovered places most tourists never see. You’ll fall in love with the charming villages, traditional culture, and delicious food.
Day 1 – Arrive Switzerland
You’ll be met upon arrival in Zurich and transferred to Lauterbrunnen, set in a deep glacial valley ringed by 72 gushing waterfalls. This was the inspiration for Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. You’ll stay near the base of Staubbauch Falls—the highest in Switzerland—dropping over 1000 feet. Then it’s dinner and a group orientation. D
Day 2 – Lauterbrunnen Valley
We walk up the valley to explore Trummelbach Falls, where torrents of water have created a series of caves and underground waterfalls. Then we ascend either by foot or by tram to the town of Mürren and the captivating village of Gimmelwald, perched above the Lauterbrunnental. BSD
Day 3 – Lauterbrunnen Valley
This is a day at play in the valley, and you can enjoy mountain biking, whitewater rafting on the Lütschine River, or taking the trams to the top of the Schilthorn, the setting for James Bond’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. BSD
Day 4 – Jungfraujoch – Eiger Trail
The Jungfrau railway takes you to the alpine crossroads of Kleine Scheidegg. From here a dramatic cog-wheel climb takes you into a tunnel through the Eiger to ascend to the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. You’ll hike on the Aletschgletscher, the longest in Europe, before descending the Eiger Trail where you find yourself face-to-face with the legendary Nordwand—the North Face of the Eiger. We stay the evening in a traditional alpine guest house. BSD
Day 5 – Grindelwald
From our inn on a high alpine meadow we make a short descent into the lively resort of Grindelwald to arrive at our small chalet-style hotel. BSD
Day 6 – Grindelwald
Ascending from the valley floor you’ll enjoy climbing the ladders and footbridges that access the sculpted gorges of both the Grindelwald glaciers. BSD
Day 7 – Grindelwald
From Grindelwald you can take the tram or a forest trail to First which leads to the infinity pool setting of Bachalpsee, where your backdrop is the snowcapped peaks and glaciers of the Jungfrau region. Descend by zipline, scooter, or on foot. BSD
Day 8 – Grindelwald – Interlaken – Zurich
Depart Grindelwald and enjoy the day in Interlaken set on the shores of two deep glacial lakes. Visit an open-air museum of before returning to Zurich for a celebratory farewell dinner. BSD
Day 9 – Depart Zurich
An early morning departure from Zurich. Welcome home. B
