Ascending the Mattertal on a cogwheel railway leading to Zermatt you follow the route of the legendary Glacier Express. Arriving in car-free Zermatt you'll be met at the station and taken to your hotel, just a few minutes away on foot or by the hotel's shuttle. You'll have time to explore Zermatt and immerse yourself in this historic and charming mountain resort.
You'll be met by your guide at the pre-arranged time for the funicular ascent from Zermatt to Sunnegga and on by cableway to the gondola station at Blauherd. A short walk of about 15 minutes on a graded road or parallel mountain trail brings you to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Matterhorn region with breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and many nearby peaks and glaciers. No matter if you're a beginner or a seasoned angler, your private fly fishing, guide will tailor the experience to your needs and interests with instruction, top-of-the-line equipment, and specific knowledge of the lake you're fishing. With enough skill and luck on your side, you can take your catch to a nearby mountain lodge, about 25 minutes on toward the glacier, where your fish will be prepared especially for you. When you've had a rewarding and full day of fishing, you can return to Zermatt. Dinner at the hotel.
Take a morning Matterhorn Express lift (or walk if you like) up to Furi for a fun and exciting clay pigeon shoot. You'll be in a covered shelter, so no need to worry about the weather. Returning to Zermatt by foot or on the tram, you'll have the afternoon to enjoy time in the hotel's spa with it's beautiful indoor/outdoor pool and spa facilities. You have this evening free to dine on your own at one of Zermatt's many restaurants.
After breakfast, you'll have time for a morning hike, swim in the pool, or last minute shopping on Zermatt's bustling Bahnhofstrasse. When it's time to leave, your hotel shuttle will take you and your bags to the train station for departure and onward travel.
Alpenwild trips are designed for people who are energetic, active, and filled with a spirit of adventure. We rate this trip as easy, although it can be adapted for those who want more challenging hiking and activity in Zermatt. You should be capable of walking 2 hours or more per day on well-groomed and graded trails at an elevation up to 8,500 feet above sea level.
