Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive Leukerbad, transfer to hotel

From the train station in the Rhone Valley it's just a short 30-minute bus ride to the high alpine valley of Leukerbad. Leukerbad's setting is one of the most dramatically beautiful spots in the Alps with mountain cliffs on all sides narrow pedestrian-only streets, and traditional Valais farms and buildings—many two or three hundred years old. You can be met at the bus station on arrival in Leukerbad, or make the short 10-minute walk on your own. Perhaps you'll want to make your first visit to the Walliser Alpenthere pools for a relaxing afternoon experience. Then be on hand for the hotel's delicious dinner in their dining room with expansive panoramic windows, so you don't miss any of the view. (D)

Day 2 – Leukerbad - Gemmi Pass and Daubensee

After breakfast at the hotel, consider taking off for the Gemmi Pass with its rich history and tradition. Views from the pass stretch south to take in the Weisshorn and the Matterhorn. For most of the 19th century the Gemmi Pass was the primary route across the Bernese Alps for travelers going on to the Simplon Pass or Italy. Today an aerial tram makes the ascent from Leukerbad to the pass in minutes, but you may choose to hike the classic route carved into the mountainside by Tyrolean miners in the 17th century, either on the ascent or descent. After a day near the pass and the Daubensee, an afternoon visit to the thermal spa will be perfect. Enjoy dinner at the hotel. (B)

Day 3 – Leukerbad - Torrent region hiking or mountain sports

Today you'll want to turn your sights to the mountains on the east side of the valley. Take the Torrent aerial tram to this popular area, with gentle and adaptable hiking terrain. You'll find many options for the descent, including mountain scooters, mountain bikes, or the regular tram service. Why not take in the bubbling thermal waters again, before dinner at the hotel. (B)

Day 4 – Leukerbad - Departure and onward travel

Following breakfast at the hotel, there is time for a little shopping in Leukerbad's lovely village center, or even one last dip in the soothing waters of the pool. Your included transportation will take you back to the airport. (B)
