Max & Kathleen Hurlimann

Max was born and raised in Zurich, Switzerland.

Kathleen was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on Long Island.

Max earned a degree in Business and Textile Engineering in Zurich, Switzerland. After serving in the Swiss Armed Forces he worked in the textile industry for a relatively short time, since his passion to travel moved him into a different direction. Max’s interests in cultures, languages, history, but mainly art history made him choose Florence, Italy as his residence for four years. When living in Florence he accepted a position with Globus Gateway, a Swiss-American company and tour operator based in Lugano, Switzerland.

This dream come true opportunity employed him for the next seven years as a tour coordinator and tour director throughout Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa. Max also conducted many tours to Asia and the South Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tahiti. In Europe, many of his tours were focused on cultural and historical sites throughout Greece and Italy for special interest groups and Universities. He was also an expert in the Swiss Alpine tour program. His next destination was the United States of America where he became owner and president of Ameritours and I.T.S.I. in Atlanta, Georgia. He organized and planned tours for Americans to Europe and vise-versa. The next step brought his company to a different level in the field of world-wide conventions and trade-shows. He was involved with major telecommunication corporations such as Nokia, Siemens and the Atlanta based telephone company Bell South, planning their annual Telecommunication exhibits in Europe and South America. He was also appointed by the Republic of Geneva as their official U.S. representative for “Telecom”, a telecommunication related exhibit in the city of Geneva, Switzerland. Max still takes Italian, French and German speaking groups to the US National Parks and many other destinations in the United States. Max is a committed student of European and American history and often visits Indian reservations and indigenous historical sites with European groups. Max is a devoted U.S. citizen and loves his native Switzerland and takes pride in being an Alpenwild tour guide in Switzerland. As an expert of that country he is excited to share its culture, history and traditions with his groups. Max’s native language is German and he is fluent in English, French and Italian.

Max and Kathleen have three children and reside in Atlanta, Georgia. Kathleen started her career as a travel agent in New York, prior to becoming a flight attendant for United Airlines, based out of JFK. For over 20 years she held a management position for a not-for-profit/organ and tissue procurement organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. She also was an integral part of Max’s company for many years. Kathleen is an experienced Swiss traveler and has traveled for many years to Europe, especially to Switzerland. Kathleen is a great admirer of Swiss culture and cuisine. Together they look forward to being your guides on the Alpenwild Swiss Rail Tour. They will make your journey through Switzerland a trip you will never forget, as they have done for their groups in the past.
