Alpenwild Sustainability Commitment

The Alps are one of the most beautiful and fragile ecosystems on earth. The topography has been shaped by glaciers over millennia creating the unique landscape that makes hiking in the Alps so special. Unfortunately, increasing temperatures and reduced precipitation from climate change is putting an increasing strain on the Alps, its nature and human communities that call it home.

Since 1850, glaciers in the Alps have lost up to 40% of their surface area and half of their volume.

Our sustainability commitments are:

1. Reduce our emissions and environmental impact

  • We will continually strive to reduce our carbon emissions for each tour:
  • Use public transportation wherever possible.
  • Transition from paper tour resources to online.
  • Ensure guide apparel is sourced from sustainable companies.
  • Source almost all of our products from local suppliers and deliver these products directly to Switzerland.
  • Provide reusable lunch materials to each guide to reduce  single use plastic for tour picnics.
  • Achieve sustainability certifications offered to tour operators through Switzerland Tourism and the Adventure Travel Trade Association

2. Empower our guides to be guardians of the Alps

  • We want to ensure that our guides are empowered to lead trips in the most sustainable way possible:
  • Provide a day's guide training each year on sustainability and the ecology of the Alps.
  • Survey the guides each year to get their feedback on how we can make our tours more sustainable.
  • Pay for public transportation for the guide to and from the start of each tour.
  • Provide books and tour materials for guides to educate our guests on the Alpine environment and what we can all do to protect it.

3. Report on our progress

Each year we will produce a report on our progress towards creating more sustainable tours which we will share with our guests. We strive to improve year on year, and this reporting will hold us accountable to that.
