The Glacier Express was an absolute highlight. The perfect way to conclude our tour in Switzerland. - L.L. - Arizona
There are certainly faster ways to get from St. Moritz to Zermatt, but none more scenic or more memorable than the Glacier Express, “the slowest express train in the world.” From the glamorous resort of St Moritz, you will travel through narrow valleys, tight curves, 91 tunnels, and across 291 bridges. The route crosses the Oberalp Pass at 2,033 meters and descends into Valais before a cogwheel climb into the village of Zermatt, which sits at the base of the Matterhorn. This tour can also be offered in reverse (Zermatt to St. Moritz). NOTE: The Glacier Express train does not operate mid-October to mid-December.
You’ll travel in first-class comfort in panoramic cars that are air-cushioned and air-conditioned. The interiors are spacious and comfortable with an on-board information system available in six languages. There is an onboard restaurant where you can order al a carte of the menu. Trains run daily during summer and winter seasons.
The Glacier Express train now offers a premium luxury car that you can choose to upgrade to for the ride. Everyone is guaranteed a window seat in one of the 20 seats available in this exclusive compartment. Trains with Excellence class depart once a day in each direction. During the journey, you will be served a delectable 7-course menu with accompanying wines. In addition, you will be treated with a personal concierge, exclusive access to the Glacier bar and infotainment on a provided i-pad onboard.
