Dreamy Kandersteg Hiking
When hikers die and go to heaven, it’s going to look a lot like Kandersteg. With its dramatic valley setting and surrounded on all sides by towering cliffs and alpine peaks, you’ll wonder how you’ll ever be able to get up to those lush wildflower meadows. But don’t worry—there are numerous cableways to speed your ascent, and put you right in the midst of this hiker’s paradise, with gushing waterfalls, clanging cowbells, and deep-cut glacial lakes. Even after ascending a tram to the high alpine meadows above Kandersteg, you’re still surrounded by some of the most awe-inspiring peaks of the Bernese Alps—the Blumisalphorn, Gspaltenhorn, and Doldenhorn.
Set beneath the massive North Face of the Eiger, Grindelwald has attracted mountaineers, hikers, and international travelers for centuries. You'll find a wide range of options from wildflower hikes and waterfall hikes, to spectacular ridge routes and mountaintop vistas. We'll explore the Jungfrau region to experience the largest concentration of glaciers in the Alps and return to our 4-star hotel each evening to be treated to traditional Alpine hospitality, comfort, and fine cuisine.
Hiking in the Alps
Explorer and mountaineer Sir Martin Conway called the Alps "the walls of heaven." Combine with that the superb accommodations, hearty and well-prepared alpine cuisine, cozy inns, and expert guides, and you'll find that hiking in the Alps on an Alpenwild tour is a guaranteed dream vacation. The Swiss Alps is the finest supported hiking destination in the world. The vertical profile, glaciers, mountain scenery, meadows, waterfalls and dense forests are more spectacular than nearly any hiking destination in North America.
What makes an Alpenwild Swiss Hiking Vacation right for you?
On each Alpenwild Swiss Hiking Vacation, you’ll enjoy two of the very best hiking destinations in the Alps in a small group with typically 8-10 other guests. You’ll have two guides on each trip, so hikes are more flexible and adaptable. There’s no rush—it’s ultimate flexibility—so you’ll have time to discover beautiful sites and rewarding trails.
One of the most popular features of our Swiss Hiking Vacations is that you'll be able to unpack and immerse yourself in one area to discover the best hiking, natural wonders, and the distinctive character of that area. You'll have the chance to get to know these two villages well.
We've chosen hotels specifically for their ability to delight our guests for an extended stay. They include many of the finest four-star hotels in the Alps. You'll find these hotels have great restaurants, larger rooms, and features like spas and wellness facilities, so you'll look forward to coming "back home" at the end of each day.
As we move from one village to the next at the end of the first week, we include a special event and First Class Swiss Rail or lake steamer accommodations. These unforgettable special features include excursions like the legendary Glacier Express, the Jungfraujoch “Top of Europe” experience, and Rhine Falls.
We include a full buffet breakfast daily with special inclusions like eggs to order, meats, fresh fruits, and vegetables. We focus our lunch stop on one of the wonderful mountain inns or restaurants that dot the Swiss Alps. We include dinner at the hotel or at select restaurants, where you’ll be able to order a la carte.
Sounds like just what you’re looking for? Then call or email us now to reserve your place in the Swiss Alps. You’ll be able to speak with one of our guides or destination specialists—someone who’s been on the trip or has detailed experience in the destination you have in mind. They can answer your questions and make sure you’re on the trip that’s right for you.
