FAQ

What is the trail like?

You’ll walk on a mix of scenic paths: peaceful lakeside promenades, historic mule tracks, woodland footpaths, and high ridge trails. Some sections are rocky or pastoral, and there are a few steeper climbs, but the terrain is always walkable and well-marked. Your guide will adapt the route or pacing as needed to match trail conditions.

Are meals included?

Yes — most meals are included: daily breakfasts, picnic or hut lunches, and dinners at hotels or local restaurants. Drinks like wine or specialty cocktails are not included.

What accommodations can I expect?

You’ll stay in comfortable, charming hotels along the lakes: on Lake Garda, Lake Iseo, and Lake Como. Rooms are private, and lodging reflects the local lakeside character.

What is the weather like?

Expect generally mild to warm weather in summer, with occasional mountain breezes and possible afternoon showers. Good footwear, rain protection, and layers are strongly recommended.

How fast do we hike, and how hard is it?

On hiking days, you typically walk 3–5 hours, with both gradual and steeper elevation changes.

The itinerary includes ascents and descents ranging from 900 to ~1,800 feet, depending on the day. Overall, the trip is rated moderately difficult—you should be in good shape and comfortable with uneven terrain.

Alpenwild’s pacing assumption is about 1,200 feet of ascent per hour and 2,000 feet of descent per hour.

What about altitude?

Some days reach higher elevations—for example, you take a cable car up to Monte Baldo (~5,500 ft) for an alpine ridge hike. The altitude is not extreme, but being in good hiking shape will help you enjoy the panoramic views more comfortably.

What is the typical group size?

This is a guided, small-group trip. Alpenwild keeps groups small to maximize personal attention and flexibility. We book only seven guest rooms in advance, which results in 6 to 12 guests per tour.

Please note that each Alpenwild tour requires a minimum of 6 guests to guarantee departure.

Will I have to carry all my gear?

No — you’ll only carry a light daypack most days. Luggage is transferred between hotels, so your main bag travels for you.

Do I need technical climbing or via?ferrata experience?

No — this is a hiking tour, not a climbing route. The trails include some steeper, rocky bits, but no ropes or special equipment are required. All hiking is done on marked footpaths.

What does “BLD” mean in the itinerary?

“BLD” means Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included that day.
Alpenwild lunches are memorable—either a hot meal at a rifugio or a beautiful picnic of fresh bread, local cheeses, cured meats, fruit, and chocolate.
Evening meals at the rifugios are hearty and delicious, showcasing regional Ladin and Italian mountain cuisine.
