Testimonials

“Romain makes the trip - a great guide with so much information about the area. We really enjoyed the visit to the olive oil farm and meeting the older couple running the farm as well as others who lived there. Last day of hiking was also a highlight.” - Provence guest

FAQ

How difficult is this tour?

We rate this trip as moderate, with some technical terrain. Hikes won't be overly strenuous, but paths will be rocky and uneven. The hills of Provence are made of limestone, which crumbles and creates rocky trails.

You should be capable of walking 3 to 5 hours per day on rocky hill paths and in small villages and towns with cobblestone or uneven paved surfaces. Hiking poles are highly recommended.

What's the hiking pace?

We move at a pace that suits the group. Some guests like to hike faster and wait at scenic spots, while others prefer a more leisurely rhythm. Our guides ensure everyone enjoys the journey safely and comfortably.

Should I bring hiking poles?

Yes, we highly recommend hiking poles. The hills of Provence are made of limestone, which creates rocky trails. Poles will assist with balance over uneven terrain.

How should I pack?

We'll send a detailed packing list tailored to your trip. You'll need to bring your own clothing, rain gear (just in case!), daypack, and hiking poles. You'll also want a few nicer outfits for dinners. Your guides will be carrying first aid gear, navigation tools, and snacks.

What are the accommodations like?

You'll stay in two luxurious hotels on this trip. The first is in Gordes, for 4 nights. This is a beautiful hotel that captures the essence of Provence. The second hotel is in St. Remy, for 4 nights. This is a gorgeous 5-star hotel that combines luxury with Provençal beauty.

Will we do more than just hike?

Yes! This is an immersive tour - in addition to scenic hikes, you'll enjoy some sightseeing, culinary, and cultural experiences. We'll delve deep into olive and lavender oil production, learn the secrets of Provençal cooking, wander the market, and discuss art and history along the way.

Will I get any free time?

Yes - dinner with the group is not included on days 3 and 6 of the tour. This is to provide you with a free afternoon and evening to explore Gordes (Day 3) and St. Remy (Day 6). Enjoy this time to relax, shop, or do some extra exploring. There will be plenty of great dinner options to choose from, and your guide can assist with recommendations.

What is a single supplement?

Tour prices are based on double occupancy in a hotel room. If you are traveling solo and don't want a roommate, the single supplement covers the additional lodging cost.

What is a standard group size on this tour?

We keep groups small, averaging about 10 guests.  A group needs a minimum of 6 guests to run, and will never exceed 14 guests. This ensures a high level of personal attention, camaraderie, and flexibility. With as few as 9 guests, we provide two guides, allowing hikers to move at different paces while staying fully supported.

On Day 1, you'll meet your group and guides at the Avignon TGV station at 2:00pm. From here, you'll shuttle over to Gordes for the start of your adventure together.

Do I need to learn French?

You can get by with English, and your guide, a local Provençal can help with translation where needed. However, we always recommend learning a few polite words and phrases in the local language while traveling. Locals will appreciate a friendy "bonjour" during the day, or "bonsoir" in the evning. Replace thank you with "merci."
