The hiking was wonderful. The guides made even the steepest ascents and descents seem truly gentle. I will long remember the hikes, the gentle encouragements my guides provided and, generally, the gentle experience of the Deluxe Haute Route. - R. D.
We recommend flying into Geneva Airport for this tour. A shuttle from Geneva Airport to Chamonix is provided upon your arrival. The group will meet on Day 1 in Chamonix, France, at 1:00pm. Enjoy a casual meet and greet, short excursion, and a welcome dinner.
After a final breakfast in the hotel, we provide you with a 1st-class rail pass for your departure. Your rail pass is valid on all Swiss public transport for 1 day. It is 4 hours by train to Geneva Airport, and 3.5 hours to Zurich airport.
Our Alps experts and Certified Switzerland Specialists can assist with recommendations for your pre- and post-tour travel arrangements. Simply call or email us your plans and we are happy to help make the best of your vacation experience. Consider an Alpenwild Getaway, a short-stay, self-guided option that’s easily combined with your tour plans.
You will stay in carefully chosen inns, small 3- and 4-star hotels, and classic berghotels that capture the authentic charm of the Alps. One night of this trip is spent in the small hamlet of Gruben, which has one hotel. This hotel has private rooms, but shared bathrooms.
The hallmark of an Alpenwild trip is our exceptional dining, including buffet breakfasts, picnic lunches, and exquisite Swiss dinners. NOTE: Alcoholic beverages, specialty drinks, and related gratuities are not included. Also one lunch in St. Luc and one dinner in Zermatt are not included. Please be aware that you may need to help carry some of the food during the trek in your backpack for picnic lunches.
We can accommodate a vegetarian diet, but since Alpine cuisine is centered around dairy products, accommodating a vegan diet is difficult. Be aware that our hotels will have vegetarian options, but not necessarily vegan for dinner. You’ll have plenty of whole grain and fresh fruit options at breakfast. For lunch, we will purchase items for the day and you’re welcome to come with us or give us specific requests. You’ll find the larger grocery stores have good gluten-free and vegetarian selections.
