- How difficult is the "Exploring the Jungfrau" tour? We rate this trip as moderate. Please note that the stats listed on the itinerary can vary depending on the guide and desires of our hikers --- as many of the hikes are easily adaptable. You should be an experienced hiker in good physical condition. You should be capable of walking 5 to 7 hours per day on well-groomed and graded trails at an elevation up to 9,000 feet above sea level. On one day a mountain railway takes you to an elevation of 11,400 feet to the Jungfraujoch and one evening is spent in a remote mountain hotel that can only be reached on foot.
- What is the group size on this tour? Exploring the Jungfrau is a small group tour with a maximum of 12–13 guests. Keeping the group small allows for more personal attention from your guide, a relaxed pace on the trail, and a more enjoyable experience getting to know your fellow travelers. A minimum of six guests is required for the tour to be confirmed.
- What are the accommodations like at Obersteinberg? One of the most memorable parts of Exploring the Jungfrau is spending a night at Berghotel Obersteinberg, a historic mountain hotel accessible only on foot. The accommodations are intentionally rustic and offer a chance to experience traditional Alpine hospitality in a remote mountain setting. Guests stay in private rooms, while bathrooms are shared on the floor. There is no electricity, Wi-Fi, or shower at the mountain hotel, allowing you to truly disconnect and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. In return, you'll wake up surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, glaciers, and waterfalls in the heart of the Jungfrau region.
- How is this different from the Best of the Swiss Alps tour? Both tours showcase the spectacular Jungfrau region, but they offer different ways to experience the Swiss Alps. Exploring the Jungfrau focuses entirely on the Jungfrau region, with greater emphasis on hiking and exploring some of the area's quieter and more remote landscapes. You'll hike from Lauterbrunnen to the remote Berghotel Obersteinberg, explore mountain trails around Mürren and Grindelwald and venture through the beautiful Rosenlauital Valley. The Best of the Swiss Alps, on the other hand, combines two of Switzerland’s most iconic mountain destinations: the Jungfrau region and Zermatt. You’ll experience both the dramatic Eiger and Matterhorn landscapes, with day hikes based from comfortable hotels in Grindelwald and Zermatt.
- Does this Exploring the Jungfrau tour visit Zermatt or the Matterhorn? No. Exploring the Jungfrau is focused specifically on the Jungfrau region and does not visit Zermatt or the Matterhorn. Instead, the itinerary explores destinations including Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Wengen, Grindelwald, Meiringen, and the remote Obersteinberg area, with spectacular views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. If seeing the Matterhorn is a priority, consider Alpenwild's Best of the Swiss Alps tour, which combines the Jungfrau region with several days of hiking and exploration around Zermatt. In addition, you could even add a visit to Zermatt on your own following the Exploring the Jungfrau tour.
