Arrival

We recommend flying into and out of Munich International Airport (MUC) for this tour.

After arriving in Munich, you’ll need to arrange your own transportation to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where the tour begins. If traveling by train, we recommend booking your tickets in advance. Trains can be particularly busy on weekends, so avoid traveling on Saturdays and Sundays if possible. If weekend travel is necessary, book an early-morning train and allow plenty of time for your journey.

On the first day of the tour, the group will meet in the hotel lobby at 1:00 PM for a short excursion, followed by a safety orientation and welcome dinner in the evening. Please plan your travel accordingly so you arrive in time for the group meeting.

Please note that Alpenwild does not arrange or provide transportation to or from the tour starting and ending points, including train tickets and transfers. We are happy to offer guidance to help you plan your journey.

For reference, travel by train from Munich Airport to Garmisch-Partenkirchen takes approximately 2–2.5 hours and typically requires at least one train change. Please allow enough time to reach the hotel before the 1:00 PM group meeting.

Once you arrive at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen train station, you may wish to contact the hotel to ask whether a shuttle pickup can be arranged. The walk through town to the hotel can be quite long, especially with luggage. Please refer to the hotel contact sheet in your documents for the hotel’s contact information.

Departure

Day 12 is your departure day, and guests are free to leave at your convenience. Please note that we do not arrange or provide departure transportation (train tickets, transfers, etc.), but we are happy to offer guidance for planning.

For reference, if traveling from Brixen / Bressanone to Munich Airport:

• Total travel time: approximately 3.5–4 hours
• Earliest train departure: around 6:30 AM (requires two train changes)
• First direct train: around 11:00 AM

We recommend allowing at least 3 hours at the airport prior to your flight. With the earliest train, the soonest suggested flight departure time is approximately 1:00–1:30 PM.

Alternatively, guests may consider flying from Innsbruck, Venice, or Verona depending on onward travel plans and personal preference.

You will stay in carefully chosen hotels, small inns, and mountain huts that capture the authentic charm of the Alps.

Meals

The hallmark of an Alpenwild trip is our exceptional dining; including buffet breakfasts, picnic lunches, and many dinner options.  NOTE: Alcoholic beverages, specialty drinks, one dinner in Innsbruck (day 6) and one dinner in Lanersbach (day 8) are not included.

We can accommodate a vegetarian diet, but since Alpine cuisine is centered around dairy products, accommodating a vegan diet is difficult. You’ll have plenty of whole grain and fresh fruit options at breakfast. For lunch, we will purchase items for the day and you’re welcome to come with us or give us specific requests. You’ll find the larger grocery stores have good vegetarian selections. For dinner our hotels will have vegetarian options, but not necessarily vegan. Other dietary restrictions like gluten-free may not be accommodated in remote mountain towns.
